Solid Port Solutions is an independent group of port consultants with extensive and
high-level technical and project management experience in the ports, transport and marine industries.

The company is based in the UAE with most of the members European.
Their expertise is based on practical experience and knowledge gained over 25 years in a wide range of countries.
Many of the group members specialize in manual, semi-automated or fully automated container terminal operation and development.

and implementing creative, future proof and sustainable solutions that will enhance operations and create added value for the customer.

Joost Achterkamp

Joost Achterkamp

Joost is the founder and CEO of Solid Port Solutions.
He has worked on several automated container terminals and has operational as well as engineering knowledge. After finishing his civil engineering study in 1981 he started as a structural engineer for the Rotterdam municipality. He joined Europe Container Terminals (ECT) in 1992 as a Project Leader on the civil construction of automated container terminals. In 1997 he switched to the position of Operations Manager at the first fully automated container terminal in the world.
By the end of 2001 Joost became the Project Manager Operations of the Euromax Terminal, responsible for the operational design of the next generation fully automated container terminal.
In 2009 he chose for a new challenge by joining ADPC in Abu Dhabi to design and build Khalifa Port, the first semi-automated terminal in the Middle East.
Solid Port Solutions was established by Joost in 2013 and he enjoys being an entrepreneur in the always dynamic Port Industry and Container Terminal business. Joost’s slogan is “Life and working must be fun”.

Dana Aussems

Dana Aussems

After majoring in marketing at the Hotel school in The Hague, the Netherlands Dana started as a security advisor for Securitas.
In 2005, she became PFSO and Security Manager at ECT (part of HPH), a container terminal operator with 3 deep sea terminals in the port of Rotterdam. The HPH network of port operations comprises over 300 berths in more than 50 ports worldwide. As Regional Security Officer EMEA and later as Leader in the security committee of HPH, reinforced Dana’s expertise in supply chain security.
In 2014 Dana started her own company: by DnA – unique security support. Together with Solid Port Solutions her expertise and view has been used in several projects amongst others in Kuwait, Namibia and Rotterdam.
Dana’s specialisms include:
• Security Risk assessments and Security Plans;
• Supply Chain Security: ISPS Code, C-TPaT, AEO-S;
• Security Awareness;
• Commercial support in tender processes.

Henk Engelberts

Henk is the General Port Operations and Terminal Operating Systems specialist of Solid Port Solutions.
He advises terminals and terminal builders on how best to structure the modern automated terminals in their layout and operations. He also has up to date knowledge of the process of selection and implementation of software that "runs" the terminals (TOS).
In 1999, when he joined ECT in Rotterdam, he started as an operations manager of the first automated container terminal in the world. Later on he became head of the projects department within ECT acquiring knowledge of buying and building new port equipment, and building and maintaining software that controls the modern automated ports.
He holds a master"s degree in Business Administration and a bachelor"s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Before he joined Solid Port Solutions he worked in the UAE for Abu Dhabi Ports on selection and implementation of Terminal Operating Systems on both their automated and conventional terminal.

Herman Gast

Herman Gast

Herman is the data-communications specialist at SPS with a focus on supporting systems for zero error, landside processes, navigation and security.
He makes sure all the individual components and subsystems match the overall requirements and operate as one orchestrated system.
His background in technical IT helped him designing and implementing containers terminal support systems from greenfield to production and from very small inland terminals to the largest fully automated ports for more than 15 years. Implemented systems include OCR, vehicle positioning, trucker self-service and zero error systems. Other competences include the technical aspects of security systems and integrating those in (air-)port security- and operational processes. His preferred role as a project team member is to participate from initial design to production and not stop until all project targets are met. Apart from his work at SPS, Herman loves the old family farmhouse back in the Netherlands and he is an auto sport enthusiast developing new technologies in the field of active car aerodynamics.

Ruud van der Ham

Ruud van der Ham

Ruud is the simulation and operations research specialist at Solid Port Solutions. In that role, he often assists in the specification process, the selection of a supplier as well as quality control during the execution phase.
He used to develop simulation models and tools for various container terminal projects, including the development of the very first robotized terminal at ECT in Rotterdam.
Other competences of Ruud are statistical analyses, data mining, Excel modeling and Python programming.
He hold a master’s degree in mathematics from Delft University and a bachelor’s degree in econometrics from Rotterdam University.
After his study, he worked at ECT in various positions, both on internal projects and projects all over the world.
After leaving ECT he went to go and live in the beautiful mountains in the south of France.
Apart from his work as senior project manager at SPS, he is a keen long distance cyclist, bon vivant and traveler.

Elmar Hendriks

Elmar Hendriks

Elmar is the Co-owner and COO of Solid Port Solutions, a company that offers Port related consultancy services and is specialized in the field of Container Terminal Automation and Integration.
In 1996 Elmar joined Europe Container Terminals (ECT). He has been involved in several project with main focus on optimization, process improvements and reorganization within the ECT organization. In 2004 he joined the Euromax Terminal project team as Project Manager Operations.
In 2009 he started as a project Sales manager for Automated solutions for Kalmar Finland. He was responsible for all pre-sales activities related to unmanned solutions for container terminals world wide.
In 2014 Elmar started Solid Port Solutions with Joost. Innovation is the key, be it introducing automation, discovering new markets, coming up with new business models, or reinventing the way the company operates.

Danny de Hey

Danny de Hey

Danny joined the Solid Ports Solutions team in 2017.
His experience gained as forwarding/liner agent and as a supervisor operations at ECT terminals in Rotterdam, allows him to advice terminals on how to improve their day to day operations.
Being a part of the operations and leading the daily process over more than 25 years has given him a broad understanding.
He combined his operational job with improvement and development of the TOS with operations improvement as the main target.

Daniel de Lange

Daniel de Lange

Daniel is an IT infrastructure specialist with a passion for industrial environments.
Having worked for IBM and their business partners in the past he gained fast experience in delivering IT environments (Service Delivery) as well as managing them (Strategic Outsourcing).
In 2006, he became part of the Euromax project as a network engineer to maintain and expand the project office network and was given the opportunity to expand his role to become the lead network engineer for the terminal. After the Euromax project he continued as an independent freelancer working on some smaller projects within the public services, banking and insurance industries.
Since 2011 he’s been part of the teams realizing 3 major “green field” automated terminals as well as implementing automated CHE on an existing manual operated facility. Together with Solid Port Solutions his input has been used in several projects.
Daniel’s specialisms include:
• Industrial network infrastructures;
• Process control networks;
• Design of high and low level designs;
• Troubleshooting automation interfaces;
• Troubleshooting data communication issues.

Jannifer Vermaas

Jennifer Vermaas

Jennifer is the Logistics and Supply chain manager of SPS. As a Logistics and Supply Chain Manager she manages different kind of international port projects and processes. She is familiar with all gate processes and can identify improvement or opportunity areas, define corrective and preventive actions, provide strategic solutions ensuring project success and strive for operational excellence.
Her other competences include clear communication, analyzing and writing reports and a structured and efficient way of working.
She obtained her Masters degree in Supply Chain Management at the Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Before her Masters she finished her Bachelor of Business Administration at the same University. She's ambitious, eager to learn and loves varied, challenging work. Besides her work she loves to socialize with her friends, train her horse and travel around the world.
